Rooted in tradition and committed to innovation, Baird McNutt’s origins date
back to 1912 when William Frederick Burgoyne Baird established a linen mill in the small Northern Ireland town of Lurgan. The company grew over the years, making everything from
handkerchiefs to parachutes during the World Wars. In the early 1960s, Baird shifted its focus and entered the fashion world, primarily making shirts from its already-famous linen.By 1988, the fourth generation of Bairds took over the business
and partnered with Peter McNutt of West Donegal to expand into crafting the richly dyed linen we know today.Baird McNutt still sits on Ireland’s windswept northwest coast and is renowned
for its special weaving process that creates softer, longer-lasting linen. The mill is a key member of the Irish Linen Guild (est. 1928), an organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the fabric’s authenticity and unmatched quality.
